English: We will be learning about poetry, looking at a variety of poems
and performing them. The children will write their own poems and use the words to make an appropriate shape
to match the title of the poem.
The children will also be looking at non-chronological reports and how
to write a report on various things including different habitats, linked to the science topic.
At home, read lots of poems together and discuss the words that the
poet has used. Can they think of any other words that could
be used? They can attempt to write their own poem making the words into a
shape, for example football, snowman, animals or plants. Also make sure
that your child is reading regularly. They should bring a new
book home on a regular basis. If possible, listen to your child read for a short time every day. Ask them questions about the book/story
and ask them to tell you what
they have just read.
Maths: We are learning to handle data; children will
be asking each other questions such as ‘What is your favourite
animal?’ or ‘What is your favourite flower?’ and
then thinking of the best way to record this information.
They will be solving problems and explaining how they solved the
problem and why they chose that method. The children need
to know all the pairs of numbers that make 20 and be able to recall them.
At home, practise reading and writing numbers in digits and words. Practise
addition as counting on and subtraction as finding
the difference and counting back. Also practise recalling pairs
of numbers that make 20, e.g. 20+0, 19+1, 18+2 etc…
Science: We will be answering the following questions
in science: What is the same and what is different about
the places that plants and animals live? How are things similar and
how can I sort them into groups? We will be looking at the similarities and differences in the
habitats of plants and animals.
At home, you can encourage your child to name and find out about different
plants and animals. Where do they live? What do
they need to survive and grow? How are these things the
same or different to other animals and plants. They could then
write a report about an animal or plant to support their learning in both Science and
English.
ICT: We are learning how to find information on the
computer to help us with our topic work. We will also be learning how to use the digital camera to help record our findings.
At home, please encourage your child to become more independent when
using ICT.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure children
have black shorts, white t-shirt and pumps in
line with the school policy. No jewellery to be worn on these
days. It would be helpful if children brought
their kit into school on Monday morning in a small labelled
bag which will then be returned on Fridays for
washing. On Tuesdays, PE will be outside and children may
bring a tracksuit and trainers in addition to their normal PE kit on that day.
Mrs. Godany will be continue to work with Outstanding Owls
in the mornings.
Reading: The children will be doing guided reading with
the class teacher on a rota basis throughout the week.
Reading books will be changed at this time so please
remember to return them every day.
Homework: The children will be given homework on Fridays
which could be in many different forms but should
help to reinforce work they have been learning about
that week. They will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday to practise for an informal test
the following Monday.
